Hello! I hope you've been enjoying the book!

Here's the discussion post for Black Water Sister, our book from this past month. What did you think of the book? Was there anything that stood out for you? Worked for you/didn't work for you? I'm excited to hear your thoughts.

(Sorry for the delay posting this, I've been traveling and not checking dreamwidth! I'll update the schedule accordingly for the delay.)

I enjoyed reading this - it was a good pageturner. I particularly liked the scene setting and the food and the patterns of character dialogue - it all felt very Malaysian - and I liked the ambitious themes, the way it had something to say about generational change and the diaspora and gender and all that.

However the plot was just fine and the way it resolved was pretty coincidence-driven. I had a good time with it but I didn't find it super memorable.

I really loved how vivid the setting was in this book! It all felt so tangible which I think aided in telling the story in general. The plot itself was fun, and I found myself connecting to the themes more this time around than I did the first time I read it. Ultimately this isn’t a lifetime favorite or anything but it was a solid read
